Apostolate of Education
Through proper education, we can bring about drastic changes in the society. For
this reason, we have two well established schools with hostels attached to them
and two more schools just on the process of establishment. Through these
schools, we teach children discipline, character formation, physical fitness
through sports and games, general knowledge…etc.
Social, charitable and developmental activities:
The spirit of St. Francis, whose approach to persons and things was fraternal,
prompts us to express our solidarity with those underprivileged and marginalized
of the society. Our brothers are fully involved in social, charitable and
developmental works. To mention a few of the important works: hostels for poor
children, help to the Tsunami victims, help to flood victims, help to the
victims in recent hazardous violence in Orissa, Old age home, assistance to the
handicapped children, help to the fisher folk, help to the poor children in our
parishes…etc.
The apostolate of Mass Media: Thamby Velugu
a bimonthly publication is doing a wonderful service to the Church in Andhra
Pradesh as well as to the Order. It is one of the means of faith formation of
the people. Vijnanadipti: the philosophico-theological journal published twice a
year from Vijnananilayam, institute of philosophy and religion, Janampet.
Vijnananilayam, Institute of Philosophy and Religion:
Vijnananilayam is the major seminary born in 1988 at Janampet in the diocese of
Eluru. It was first an Institute of Philosophy and in June 1990 the department
of Theology was introduced. Through it, we render our service to the students of
various dioceses and religious congregations: the primary motto of it is to
prepare Priests and Religious for the challenging task in the world today. It
also aims at an integral growth of the candidates. Situated in a
socio-economically poor area, the Institute tries to instil into its students
the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of addressing themselves to the distressing situations of
poverty, illiteracy and injustice with pastoral charity. We have well trained
and committed friars who spare no effort to realize and achieve all these aims
through the Institute. Besides this, our formators tries to instil the
Franciscan values from the very beginning from recruiting the vocations and this
is carried out through out the formation of the candidates.
